Notice to residential customers regarding Garbage Collections & Recycling

All waste, garbage, and trash placed by residential customers to be collected by the City of Flemingsburg must be in containers, either trash cans or trash bags as specified in City Ordinance No. 5-91-1. Items too large to fit in a container will be considered a special collection item and will result in an additional charge per Ordinance No. 5-91-1. For special collections, contact City Hall at 606-845-5951 to request and schedule the collection.

The following items will not be picked up by the City and are not  to be placed at the curb or street for collection: Furniture, Appliances, Tires, Roofing Materials, Construction Materials, Paint (unless already dried in the can), batteries, and other items deemed unsafe by the Public Works Supervisor.

Violations of the provisions of Ordinance No. 5-91-1 will constitute a misdemeanor and are subject to fines of up to $500.00.

Solid Waste and Recycling Changes

The City of Flemingsburg will no longer be picking up curbside recycling. If a resident currently has a blue recycling can, they will be able to keep it and use it as they would like. If it’s used for garbage, it will be treated as a garbage can per the City’s ordinance. The City uses stickers on trash cans to let residents know when cans need to be repaired or replaced. Please be aware of these stickers.

Recycling can still be brought to the City’s recycling trailers. The following items are the ONLY items that can be recycled.

  1. Cardboard, magazines, or any kind of paper
  2. #1 PETE plastics (Drink bottles with lids removed)
  3. HDPE #2 Plastics (milk & household detergent bottles)
  4. Aluminum cans
  5. Metal food cans
  6. HDPE #2 Shopping bags

Beginning May 2nd, 2019, the recycling trailers will be moved from the garage by City Hall to the garage on the hill. The trailers will be kept locked behind a gate. There will be an attendant on duty to check that the recyclables can be accepted. Recyclables can only be dropped off between 1p.m. and 4p.m. EVERY Thursday and Friday.
